Introduction Centers of Excellence (CoE):
- Department of Collegiate Education identified certain Govt. Degree Colleges, Private Aided, and Unaided Colleges covering all 13 districts to be groomed and developed as Centers of Excellence.
- These colleges were identified based on the parameters like student strength, infrastructure facilities, faculty and their research experience, results obtained in the respective stream for the last three years and best practices followed.
- The faculty members visited top ranking colleges in Hyderabad & Chennai to study the strengths of these colleges and identify the best practices adopted to groom their colleges into Centers of Excellence.
P.V.K.N. Govt. College, Chittoor is one of the colleges identified by the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, AP, Hyderabad to be developed as Centers of Excellence (CoE). After the visit of the top ranking colleges in Hyderabad and Chennai, the Principal and faculty have come to the conclusion to move the college further towards Centers of Excellence. 1 Profile of the College P.V.K.N. Govt. College, was established in the year 1961. The college was affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and the college was recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and 12 (B) in the year 1966. The college is gratefully indebted to the distinguished former principals, who nurtured this institution into a citadel of learning. A spirit of sacrifice pervades the campus. With the noble effort of faculty, a good number of the alumni have become successful entrepreneurs, academicians, professionals, technocrats, defence personnel, etc., making their alma mater proud. The college has been designated as the Lead-College in the district to coordinate the academic and administrative activities of GDCs in the district. A wholesome breakthrough was made during 1998-99 when the need based and job-oriented restructured courses such as Computer Science, Computer Applications, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Communicative English were introduced. P.G. courses in Mathematics, Commerce, Organic Chemistry, M.Com., FM, Economics and Botany were started later on. With regard to infrastructure, the college has classrooms rooms, a spacious auditorium, four computer labs with 176 systems. At present, the college is offering BA , B.Com. B.Sc, UG Groups in 22 different combinations and 06 PG courses besides 03 Career Oriented Courses. 1463 U.G. students and 223 P.G. students are pursuing their UG and PG programs during this academic year 2014-15. The teaching staff consists of 44 Regular, 09 Contract, 01 Part-time lecturer and 18 Guest faculty are delivering academic instructions that leads to enhancement of Quality education. 53 Non-teaching staff assisting in Administration for smooth running of the college.
